Individual Differences and Expectations of Automated Vehicles

Despite the benefits of automated vehicles (AVs), there are still barriers to their widespread adoption. Expectations about AVs have been identified as one most important factors in understanding AV Therefore, by public’s expectations AVs, we can better understand whether or when likely be adopted on a wide scale. Individual differences, including demographics and personality, that impact technology However, it is not clear how individual differences influence AVs. To examine this, conducted an online survey with 443 U.S. drivers who were recruited divided into subpopulations age, gender, ethnicity, census region, educational level, marital status, income, driving frequency, experience, personality traits. Results revealed drivers’ differ significantly education levels, drive personality. More specifically, higher more often generated younger, men, White non-Hispanic, highly educated, never married, frequency driving, less high extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability. The results this study provide foundation for future research related implications design development
